The Executive Board is charged with making business decisions for the club and works for the betterment of the hobby
and IPMS NIagara Frontier.
On Saturday, July 15 from 11am to 1pm there will be a sale and distribution of donated model kits and assorted modeling
supplies at 12 Mildred Drive, Cheektowaga, NY (George Urban/Genesee Area). The kits will be on display in the garage for
this time only. First come, first served. A wide variety of scales and subjects will be available including a large amount
of German WWII armor and aircraft in all the common scales. There will be some ships and Sci-Fi/Fantasy kits as well.
Proceeds will go to the benefit of the donor.
Lastly, but not unimportantly, we are one month into the Annual Tony Bartozek Memorial "I'm Not A Modleing Loser"
Contest. I am asking that all participants bring in your projects in-progress so we can see how you're doing. Not only are
we trying to promote the reason the club exists - building scale models - but to challenge ourselves to work under a
deadline. Just so it's clear, the kit you picked is the one you must finish despite any problems you may encounter. This
keeps it fair for everyone. If it's that much of a "dog of a kit", remember all you have to do is assemble, paint and decal
it to consider it finished for the contest's purposes. Having a trophy winner is not a requirement and you are supposed to
have fun with it. Also, we are in competition with IPMS Hamilton, so club honor is at stake as well! All entries, whether
they are completed or not, are due for inspection during the September, 2018 club meeting.
Here are the 2018 entrants for IPMS NIagara Frontier:

Model tables from the May meeting:
Paul Hines artwork this month features a Pontiac GTO "The Judge", Dodge Charger and a Chevy Z28 Camaro.
Paul explains that he uses "acrylics with a gloss medium for a smooth, buttery consistency to give the cars
a solid, heavy look".
Steve Weller is entering the Admiral F4F-3 Wildcat for the Bartozek Challenge. Steve chose this because
of the kit's accuracy of all that are available, plus the pilots that flew during Guadalcanal and Wake Island
campaigns were the "largest collection of stone-cold heroes I have come across so far for US pilots in WWII".
Rod Adam displayed his 1/110 scale "Abertay Lightship". He made the lantern from a spent medicine bottle,
a vent from a 1/48 caldercraft and sails. He used paints by Italeri and weathered with watercolor pastels.
Jim Lewis built a Revell 1/16th 1934 Ford Coupe with a 350 Chevy and GM 400 transmission. He added an
Inglese injection system with Weber carbs. The exhaust was made from aluminum tubing. Paints used were Testors
One Coat "Purplicious" and "Confetti" nail polish via the airbrush followed by four coats of Testors One Coat
Clear. He hand striped with Testors Model Master orange and lavender.
Eugene Paveljack built the ICM WWII German Personnel Car painted with Model Master colors.
He also showed us the material used for paint masking.
He also had a Soviet B4 M1931 203mm with paints by Mission Models.
Jim Greenfield's current project is a scratchbuilt 1/72nd scale German F Lighter MFP Escort Ship. Jim
explains that he's working off of plans and it's going pretty smoothly.
Larry Osolkowski brought in his kit for the Bartozek Challenge, a 1/24 Auto-Kit metal kit of a 1934
E.R.A. race car. Larry said the kit was part of the estate of a late friend who was the chief of timing and
scoring for the Formula 1 races when they were held at Watkins Glen, and the box included a copy of the
official entry list from the 1971 race. Also included was a booklet describing a computer simulation of the
Watkins Glen track, which may have been the first attempt to do something like that.
Larry also brought in a 1/43 Provence Moulage kit of a 2001 Audi R8 Le Mans race car. Larry said he tried
to finish it for BuffCon, but ran out of time. He also mentioned that there are over 150 decals on the car.
Clint Keidel has dual builds this month: two AMT 1/25th scale 1940 Fords, one stock and one custom for
comparison. The custom '40 was chopped, and had molded fenders, extended rear fenders, and was nosed with a
custom grill. He also has it painted in Rustoleum Red Oxide Primer.
Clint is also in the process of building the Tamiya 1/32 scale Corsair F4U-2 Night Fighter. So far, he's added
resin wheels, cloth seatbelts and has plumbed the guns. The paints he's using are by Mission Models, Tamiya, Model
Master and MiG.
Al Germann is working on a Christmas gift from his wife: The Tamiya 1/25th scale Mercedes Benz SLS-AMG. He's
using paint from spray cans by Tamiya (Metallic Red) followed by their pearl top coat.
Maryanne Germann's "Game of Thrones" character Mother of Dragons figure by Nuts Planet is well on the way.
She is both hand and airbrushing paints by Vallejo to finish her project.
Dave Armitage brought in a "forced perspective" diorama entitled "WWI in Egypt - Anzacs and Arabs vs. Turks".
He used vehicles and figures in 1/32, 1/32 and 1/72nd scales placed strategically to give it depth. He painted
the sky and clouds, printed the tents, camels and pyramids off of the computer and placed them on the scene.
Testors spray and brush paints were used in the project. He's also installed a lighting unit that can change
colors via remote control. (Apologies for the bad photo.)
Dick Schulenberg built the Special Hobby 1/72nd scale NJ-1/BT-9 using paint by Polly Scale and Vallejo. Dick
says that thick parts like the rudder and stabilizers had sink marks and the raised ribbing was all lost when he
filled and sanded them. The vacuum-formed canopies were not bad (the usual challenge). Dick chose it because of
the great colors and the time period when they flew. Dick is also working on the Copper State Models Lanchester
WWI Armored Car in 1/35th scale. So far, he's added spray can primer by Tamiya and is building it strictly out
of the box and won't be adding anything to the base kit. He also notes that "everything fit perfectly".
John Zaranek is converting a Netherlands Army YPR-765 infantry fighting vehicle into a field ambulance.
Based on photos found on Prime-Portal he covered the hole intended for the turret with card stock cut into a
circle shape with a circle cutting tool. He's also added the cage on top of the hull with Evergreen plastic
strip and rod stock, cut and form fitted into place. The photoetch details on the model are included in the kit.
Anthony Gliszczynski built a Revell 1967 Corvette. Tony made the car into a "gasser" because the base kit
"didn't do anything" for him. He began his conversion by cutting up the under carriage and installed custom
headers, adapted blower to the 427 Chevy motor, straight axle front end and wheelie bars with chute. His paint
choice was DuPont automotive paint, a 2001 Ford color - it appears to change from red to blue depending on the
angle it's looked at, followed by a two-stage clear coat. The model also won the "Secret Santa" award at
BuffCon.

Some free magazines were on the tables for members to take home.

There were a few other items on the tables. Please remember to fill out an information sheet and make sure
that John gets it before the end of the meeting.

Finally, some around-the-room photos.
