Greetings fellow modelers! I have a bunch of information to share with you in this issue. First and foremost, a huge thank you goes out to E-Board member Ed Button for taking the lead for sponsorships at our last BuffCon. Through Ed's efforts, the club gained $900 in donated sponsorships - this is HUGE!!! So, the next time you see Ed at a club meeting, shake his hand, give him a good clap on the back and buy him a beverage!

Next, although we had a club vote (that passed in May) to change the IPMS Niagara Frontier constitution to reflect our desire to have all board members serve a two-year term instead of the traditional one year term, we will need to do it again. Club secretary Dick Schulenberg informed us at the last E-Board meeting that the membership needed to be informed two-months prior to any votes being taken and our election was not valid. So, this will be conducted at the June 16, 2014 meeting.

Speaking of elections, due to the confusion that occurred during our attempt to have an Executive Board election at May's club meeting we will conduct these elections at the meeting on June 16th. The positions and those running for re-election or who are interested in serving IPMS Niagara Frontier are as follows:

  • President - John Zaranek
  • 1st Vice President - Justen Hanna
  • 2nd Vice President - Larry Osolkowski
  • Treasurer - Tom Faith
  • Secretary - Dick Schulenberg

There are six Director positions on the Executive Board, to be selected from the following candidates:

  • Paul Hines
  • Bob Collignon
  • Joe Sczygielski
  • Frank Blonski
  • Ed Button
  • Johnny Newmann
  • Brian McFee
  • Carlos Martinez

All paid IPMS Niagara Frontier members may re-elect those listed or write-in a name that isn't listed.

We are now one month into the "Annual Tony Bartozek Memorial I'm Not A Modeling Loser" contest. Here is a listing, by team, of those who've entered and what their project is. Remember, those who entered have until the August, 2014 club meeting to submit their finished entries. All entrants are encouraged to bring in their in-progress works to the June meeting and submit them for the Round Table discussion to gauge your progress.

The E-Board is also working on arranging a club tour to the Pierce Arrow Museum in Buffalo; tentative time for this tour will be in late July, 2014. Larry Osolkowski is spearheading this venture and will give us some options about it at the June club meeting.

Lastly, as a friendly reminder to all club members: if any situation develops where you are in a conversation and it looks like it might be a great opportunity to get the model club involved, please do not commit to it or speak on behalf of IPMS Niagara Frontier without getting approval from the Executive Board first. There may be some legal/ethical issues with the club getting involved with it and we, as an organization, would need to investigate on the best way to proceed. At the very bottom of each and every E-Dizpatch newsletter is a listing of all of the club officers and their contact information. Please give someone a phone call or email before committing to anything that may involve the club. Thanks very much!

That's all for now, see you at the meeting.

Model Table Round-up from the May meeting

Al Germann presented the club with Lindberg Dodge Tractor Trailer truck. Al says he likes building big custom projects and is doing a lot of scratchbuilding and conversions to make this a cab-over convertible. Before it's finished, Al says it will get a "low rider" paint job.

Eric Hillebrand showed his recently completed Italeri 1/35th scale Chevy Truck kitbashed with Tamiya's 1/35th field kitchen. Eric finished it with a wash and drybrushing techniques.

Eric also completed his Teddy Roosevelt bust in 1/200 scale. Eric chose this subject because of it's historical significance and he painted it using Tamiya and Vallejo acrylics. He also made the spectacles out of lead wire.

Wayne Dippold brought in a project that he is working on for the British modeling magazine, "Airfix Model World". The subject is AFV Club's 1/48th scale F-5E. Wayne relates that it is built out-of-the-box with the exception of the added Quick Boost ejection seat. When asked if there were any problems with the kit, Wayne stated that there were too many to mention, however he did use Model Master and Humbrol paints to give it it's final finish.

Johnny Newmann showed us an assortment of Infamy Miniatures figures. Johnny plans on simply painting them with no weathering or modifications. Other than some gaps in the parts, he says that they are "great" castings.

Todd Habscheid completed some really neat Malifaux wargaming miniature figures. Todd said he chose them because they looked "cool" on the box cover, but unfortunately, there were no instructions on how to assemble them. Despite this, Todd succeeded and finished them with the Citadel range of acrylics including fur, bronze, nul oil, forest green, rust, steel and others.

Dave Safe offered up another of his boat creations, the Brooklyn Tug Boat in 1/32nd scale. He chose this particular one because he simply liked the looks of it. Dave added LED and incandescent lighting, ropes, an aluminum mast, battery spotlight, styrene panels, a wooden base and a brass propeller. He finished the boat with different acrylics, used non-fouling paint for the bottom and used antiquing techniques to give it an aged patina.

Bob Raithel's been pretty busy, so here goes. We start with a couple of scratchbuilt efforts: a Shoggoth and Bloodworm that he finished with oils and both are figments of his ripe imagination. On the more traditional side, he offers up a Dragon 1/72nd scale Humvee that he finished with PollyS and Tamiya acrylics and drybrushed to finish it off. Also, a 1/72nd scale German truck by Academy was similarly finished. Bob chose these subjects because he "likes hummers" and the "easy assembly" of them.

Paul Hines continues to impress us all with his line of fine drawings which also take us through some history of automobile racing. First off, there is his 1949 Maserati depicted as winning the British Grand Prix. Next, a 1958 Ferrari driven by Mike Hawthorn to the World Championship at the Grand Prix of Casablanca and last, but not least, a 1966 Jack Brabham designed car to win at the French Grand Prix in Reims, France.

Mike Butry brought in a 1/25th scale 1969 Chevrolet Nova of a non-specified kit manufacturer. Mike says he built it out-of-the-box; however, he did modify the exhaust by drilling out the pipe tip and used Bare Metal Foil for the first time. He painted the interior of the model black and lightly buffed it. Madeira Maroon Poly was used on the body (can't remember the name of the manufacturer) and glossed it with 4 to 5 coats of wax and also used Alclad Chrome and Air Frame Aluminum for added detail. Mike related that on the whole it was a decent fitting kit with the exception of issues with the wheels when he went to mount them on the rear axle.

Tom Mooney showed us his gargantuan 1/16th scale Tiger 1 tank by Hobby Boss. Mike added a turned aluminum barrel and muzzle brake, photoetched parts for the front and rear fenders and exhaust shrouds. Aside from airbrushing the camouflage, Tom extensively drybrushed the tracks and upper hull for further depth. He also added further weathering by using ground chalk pastels. Model Master acrylics, enamels and metallics were used throughout the build. Tom enjoyed this build so much that he's musing if Hobby Boss makes any other Tigers or it's variants in 1/16th scale.

Cindy Klukowski really enjoys the look of and the building of HO scale buildings and structures. She brought in for all to enjoy her current project, a DPM Town House and Burger Shack. She's used Tamiya acrylic paints by hand (no airbrushing for Cindy!) and added trees by Woodland Scenics. This particular subject is two parts of a set of six. Cindy is building them separately, but will result in a complete "Main Street" when the other four are finished.

Matt Klukowski is also building some HO scale structures. In this case, it's Walter's Merchant's Row. Matt used the Citadel and Vallejo line of acrylics to finish the project, which is going to be part of a model train layout. He's simulated the boards on the vacant storefront by using Evergreen sheet plastic painted brown.

Larry Osolkowski brought in some unusual subjects for him. First were a pair of laser-etched metal aircraft kits that he picked up during his recent visit to the Air Force Museum in Dayton, Ohio: an SR-71 Blackbird and a Fokker D-VII. These are assembled by removing the parts from the metal sprues, bending them as necessary, and attaching them by inserting small tabs into small slots and bending the tabs over; no glue is involved. Larry also brought in a photo-etch set from Gold Medal Models for the Revell USS Essex that he's working on.

Jim Wolf displayed several items. The first was his entry in the BuffCon Humor in Modeling category: "Hour of Backstroke Break War", inspired by some truly hilarious Chinese "English" found on a box. The second item was a building segment that's requiring a lot of putty work, and the last item is a figure for which we, unfortunately, don't have any more information.

To finish up this month's Round Table of offerings, we have Jason Ignatijew's Revell 1968 Dodge Charger R/T that he built out-of-the-box and finished with Testor's Bronze.

Finally, the documented evidence of the entries in the "Annual Tony Bartozek Memorial I'm Not A Modeling Loser" contest. First, for the Red Team, Team Captain Rich Bernecki and his Minicraft 1/32 A4F Skyhawk.

Next is Jason Wesolowski with his Warhammer 40K Imperial Knight Titan.

Next we have Todd Habscheid and the Vampire Counts Crypt Ghouls.

Al Germann is next with his Heller 1/72 BF-109E.

Mark Budniewski follows with a Revell 1/25 1957 Custom Chevy Hardtop.

Next we have Bob Raithel with his Revell 1/72 Fennek.

Eric Hillebrand will be building a Tamiya 1/35 SdKFz 250/9.

Jeff Usiak will do a Hobby Boss 1/72 P-39N Airacobra.

Jim Wolf has the ever popular Dr. Deadly's Sabertooth Rabbit.

Justen Hanna sent a surrogate representative with his Eduard Profipack 1/48 FW-190 D-11.

Samantha Hanna is back with a Warhammer 40K Imperial Bastion.

Sam Kuminecz will be building an Airfix 1/72 F-51 Mustang.

And wrapping up the Red Team is Matt Krygier with his Marvel Wolverine.

Next we have the Blue Team, with Team Captain Brian McFee building a 1/48 MQ-9 Reaper Drone.

Dave Krygier will take a shot at a Space 1999 The Alien.

Next we have Jacob Gadek with a 1/18 Tamiya Nissan R381.

Mark Gadek is next with a 1/48 RWD-8 PWS.

Mike Szadek will build a 1/35 Ford GPA Jeep.

Next we have Matt Klukowski and a Revell 2009 Dodge Challenger.

The ever photogenic Cindy Klukowski has Walter's HO Front Street Building.

Tom Faith will do a Bronco 1/35 Canadian Bofors 40mm Gun.

Next is Jason Ignatijew with an AMT 1965 Dodge Hemi Charger.

Tony Gliszczynski has a Ford F250 Super Duty Pick Up Truck to build.

Next we have John Zaranek and his Airfix 1/72 Folland Gnat.

Bob Collignon will attempt a Bronco 1/35 German Adler Kfz. 13 Armored Car.

And the final entry is Ed Button with his Revell 1/48 B-26 Marauder (sorry, we didn't get a photo, Ed).

Thanks to Bob Collignon for the photography.

CLUB OUTING TO THE PIERCE ARROW MUSEUM

With the success of the club visit to the Naval Park last year, the E-board thought it would be fun for the club to investigate other possible destinations. The Pierce Arrow Museum, now called the Buffalo Transportation Pierce Arrow Museum, was suggested, and we decided to look into the details.

The museum offers regular admission at rates of $10 for adults, $8 for seniors, and $5 for children ages 6-17. They also offer guided tours, presented by Jim Sandoro, the proprietor of the museum, at a rate of $20 per person with a minimum of 30 people attending. After some discussion, the E-board has decided to propose a subsidized outing, with club members contributing $10 per person and the club covering the other $10. This would include members and guests. This really requires that we get enough interest to form a group of around 30 people. If we can't do that, we could still go as a group, but skip the tour and have the club cover half of the general admission ticket. The group would meet at the museum on Saturday, July 26th at 10:00AM if we do the tour, or at 11:00AM if we do general admission. We would then have a group lunch at Chef's Restaurant, which is just down the street, after the museum visit.

We will request a show of interest for the above options at the next meeting. Please let us know what choice you would prefer, since we need to make a reservation if we are doing the tour.
