Greetings and salutations to one and all! Here it is mid August and it feels like I just completed my article for the July news letter. Where has the time gone and can it please slow down just a tad? With the weather really not cooperating this summer, I hope everyone got in a little more bench time.

Our next meeting (Tuesday, Aug 17th) will be another build and bull session so bring something in to work on!

Before I wrap things up, here is a rundown of the following shows that are a GO:

  • SVASMCon36 - Sep. 18th
  • ROCon39 - Sep. 26th
  • SYRCon33 - Oct. 17th
  • Cleveland 24 - Nov. 7th

It would be great to get out of the house and support these shows as a club.

Lastly, for anyone who hasn't paid their dues, please do and for those that haven't attended a meeting in a while, please join us this Tuesday - we miss you!

Until next time, happy modeling!

We would like to encourage all club members to join the national IPMS. Help support your hobby on a national level. IPMS provides the insurance that allows us to have our events, and membership includes a nice monthly magazine. The website can be found at: IPMS, and an application form can be found HERE.

The monthly general club meeting will be on Tuesday, August 17th, starting at the usual 7:00pm at the usual meeting room in the rear building. Here are the safety guidelines we will be following:

  1. Masks are not required for fully vaccinated individuals.
If everyone follows these guidelines, we can have a safe meeting. Please consider coming to the meeting to support your club, and bring your current projects. Hope to see you there!

A link to the current Sprue and Glue News has been added in recent months to the Newsletter Blast emails provided by National IPMS. For those readers from other chapters, and anyone else who might be interested, our website has a Newsletter page with buttons to select any of the newsletters from the current year. There is also a button on that page to access the Archive page, which has links to all of the newsletters published since September 2007.

The Links page on the club website has recently been updated with information contributed by members. If you have a favorite website for modeling info, forums, etc., email the information to larryo@ipmsniagarafrontier.com.

A NOTE TO NON-MEMBERS

IPMS Niagara Frontier is a group of people from the Western New York area who enjoy the hobby of scale model building. We have about 80 members with 30+ attending each monthly meeting. Our club meets at 7:00pm on the third Tuesday of every month at The Knights, 2375 Union Rd., Cheektowaga, NY 14225.

A typical meeting starts with a short session related to club business. This is followed by "Show & Tell" - many members bring in their current work in progress to share experiences with other members. There is usually at least one model-related demonstration by a club member at each meeting. Meetings are free to the public. If you are in the Western New York area we would love to have you drop in to one of our meetings and say hello. We welcome modelers of all skill levels - from beginner to expert.

Our annual BuffCon event held each year in April continues to be one of the largest shows in this part of the country.

As a community-oriented club we also gather toys each Christmas for the "Toys-for-Tots" program and are proud of our support of this worthwhile program.

A brochure that describes the club and its activities can be found HERE.

There are no minutes from the July 2021 general meeting.

To promote greater transparency regarding the operation of the club and the EBoard, action items from the previous month's EBoard meeting will be published in the newsletter. These will not be detailed minutes of the meetings, but highlights that the general membership should be aware of.

The EBoard is on summer hiatus, so there was no August meeting.

Dave Armitage sent in some photos of his latest project, a model of the Maine. It was a resin and PE kit from Ironshipwrights and Dave said it was very difficult to build due to very poor instructions with no rigging diagram whatsoever. Thanks to an Osprey book he was able to detail and rig the ship.

We'll now continue with the models on the tables at last month's live, in-person meeting. Unfortunately, your newsletter editor was unable to attend the meeting, so there was no supply of model table info sheets. Al Germann sent in descriptions of his work on the tables, so we'll start with his models. Al's first model was a 1967 Mustang GT. Al said "sometimes I buy paint in advance of knowing what model I want it on. That was the case with this 1967 Mustang GT, by AMT ERTL in 1/25 scale. The paint is a can of touch-up automotive paint for the new Jeep Wrangler called Bikini Pearl that I bought a couple months ago. When this Mustang kit came along, it was a perfect match as Ford offered a similar color for 1967. Building this 'out of box' which is not easy for me. Well, except for swapping out the wheels. Interior paint is Vallejo and some Tamiya. The kit and paint is coming along great with no real issues and thankful for that as I needed a quick build for some fun."

Al's second model was a 1972 Mustang Convertible. Al said "this Mustang is making progress but is taking a lot of work with all the conversion to a convertible. This will also be sporting the 'Sprint' trim level in white with light blue strips. Hubcap style wheels came from Ebay. I am having difficulty with the body putty used on the hood once the Mach 1 hood scoop was cut out; it keeps shrinking. Another club member suggested the 2 part body putty instead the tube based version. Since I have some of this, it will receive a skim coat soon. Looking forward to finishing this up this model as I had this idea for this trim level and convertible for a long time."

Al also sent in a description of his wife, Maryann's current work: "some more wood burning on 'live edge' wood from a tree in our yard. I made a series of coasters with these receiving pecan stain topped off with polyurethane. I definitely enjoying doing small projects like this."

My apologies for the lack of descriptions, but enjoy the work of our club members' displays on the tables.

Finally, some around-the-room shots.

Thanks to the members who sent in photos and updates on their current projects, and thanks to Bill Borkowski for taking the model table photos.
