Hello everyone.

It's been a fairly quiet summer so far and I only have two items for this newsletter. There is a one-time, first come, first served model sale of a donated collection this Sunday, July 15th from 11am to 1pm at 12 Mildred Drive in Cheektowaga. As I've mentioned before, there are lots of WWII German ships, aircraft and armor subjects in both 1/72nd and 1/35th scales along with a variety of other kinds of kits, paints and supplies. Mildred Drive runs between George Urban Blvd. and Genesee Street, closest to George Urban. We will not have cash on hand, so if you are attending and can bring small bills, it is appreciated. (Editor's note: due to extenuating circumstances, the newsletter could not be published before this event occurred. An email was sent to the general membership with the above information on Saturday, 7/14.)

Secondly, those of you who are participating in the Tony Bartozek Memorial "I'm Not A Modeling Loser" contest this year, bring in your in-progress kits and explain how it's progressing. Remember, we are in competition with IPMS Hamilton and I don't want to be ashamed in September.

Hope to see you at the meeting on Monday, July 16th at 7pm.

Model tables from the June meeting:

Eugene Paveljack presented a 1/35 WWII German 35.5 cm M1 Super Heavy Howitzer. The kit is based in white metal, painted in German Gray using Mission Model paint and dry-brushed. Eugene also used a chrome pen.

Brian McFee brought in a 1/48 Strike Eagle that is a work in progress.

Nick Carluccio built a 1968 Oldsmobile Starfire auto based on an old Jo-Han kit. He achieved the glass black finish using Testors Model Master paint polished with Novus #2 and coated with Simonize wax.

Bill Borkowski shared with the club an Aston Martin DBS build (Airfix kit) that he is building for the Tony Bartozek challenge.

Al German is working on a Fairchild F-27 turboprop civilian airliner for the Tony Bartozek challenge. Al scratch built some of the interior so that he could leave the door and stairs open. He's going to use aftermarket decals to represent Aloha Airlines.

Rod Adam shared with the club his build of the USS Harriet Lane (c1858), a steam wheeler ship. Rod kept the hull and paddles and scratched built the rest!

Dave Armitage presented a Holt Artillery Tractor (circa WWI) build based on the Roden Kit. Box art showed canvas canopies which weren't provided, so he made them from muslin. The kit was aquired at a previous meeting for the Tony Bartozek challenge due in September.

Dave Armitage also brought in a completed "The Mummy" build (based on Brendan Fraser's 1999 film version). Stone walls are machined Poplar wood, cobwebs were created with a hot glue gun, and torches have Flicker units wired in (bulbs are powered by five 9-volt batteries). Wall art was created on a computer.

Dick Schulenberg brought in his in-progress build of a 1/32 scale Boeing P-26 Peashooter mono-wing plane (Hasegawa kit). This is Dick's Tony Bartozek entry. He plans to use a Lone Star Models resin interior and Starfighter decals, and Vector's engine and cowl. Dick had some surprisingly awful sink marks to fill all over the bottom of the wing.

Justen Hanna brought in a "Knight of Shrouds" gaming figure by Games Workshop. He used mostly Citadel and Vallejo acrylic paints. Justen airbrushed the "glow" effects before hand painting the details. Samantha Hanna shared with the club a "Warscryer Citadel" by Games Workshop. The dark and eerie stone and wood finish was accomplished with dry-brush techniques using Citadel paints and washes. Flowers are from Scenic Factory.

Tim Grieve presented a Monogram F-4C/D Phantom II Vietnam-era fighter jet in 1/72 scale. He used Testors and Humbrol paints to achieve the overall finish, including exhaust accents. Tim likes the F-4 jet, which replaced the F-100 Super Sabre series when he was in the Air Force.

Tim Grieve also shared a Revell based Mack Fire Pumper truck. He used Testor's Red, Chrome, Black and White paints for the finish. Tim choose to build this kit instead of another airplane because it "was the only available kit on the Outer Banks while on vacation".

Lastly, Tim Grieve brought in a third build - this time a North Atlantic Fishing Trawler based upon the Lindberg 1/90 scale kit. Tim provide added details, and included windows to the wheel house and cabins. Tim said he likes the modeling details a fishing boat subject provides.

Paul Hines showed us another collection of his fine acrylic artwork, this time based on an aircraft theme. Unfortunately, the info sheets were misplaced, so we don't have the details.

There were a few other items on the tables. Please remember to fill out an information sheet and make sure that John gets it before the end of the meeting.

Finally, some around-the-room photos.

Thanks to Brian McFee for doing the tables, and Bill Borkowski for the photography.
